As you zoom through your day and your week, make sure and remember to surrender yourself to God and His plan throughout your day. I know it is so easy for me to get up and start going and not put my focus on the Lord and His plan for my day. Surrender is a daily and at times a moment by moment process.
Jesus said it like this in Matthew 16:24-25, "Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it." I would encourage you as you walk through every day to ask the Lord what it means this day to deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Him. This may be in your relationship with your spouse, your roommate, your co-worker, your neighbor or a stranger in the street.
Verses that have always challenged me in this regard are Philippians 2:3-5, "Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking ... You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had." Then Paul goes on to say what the attitude of Christ Jesus was, he didn't concern himself with holding on to His God attributes but became of no reputation taking on the position of a slave being made in human likeness and then died a criminal's death. This is the attitude that we are supposed to have in our surrender to God and our interaction with people.
I want to leave you today with Paul's words to the church in Colosse, Colossians 3:1-4, "Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at
God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory." Allow God to give you an eternal perspective, seeing people through his eyes, while keeping your focus on the things of heaven.
